Review--Timeless by Gail Carriger

Alexia Tarabotti, Lady Maccon, has settled into domestic bliss. Of course, being Alexia, such bliss involves integrating werewolves into London High society, living in a vampire's second best closet, and coping with a precocious toddler who is prone to turning supernatural willy-nilly. Even Ivy Tunstell's acting troupe's latest play, disastrous to say the least, cannot put a damper on Alexia's enjoyment of her new London lifestyle.

Until, that is, she receives a summons from Alexandria that cannot be ignored. With husband, child, and Tunstells in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to cross the Mediterranean. But Egypt may hold more mysteries than even the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle. What does the vampire Queen of the Alexandria Hive really want from her? Why is the God-Breaker Plague suddenly expanding? And how has Ivy Tunstell suddenly become the most popular actress in all the British Empire?

Timeless concludes Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series, one I am sad to see end, yet it ended very nicely! This series has been filled with many laughs, action, some romance, parasols and other gadgetry and of course a good spot of tea!

It's been two years since Heartless, little Prudence, Alexia and Conall's child is a toddler with quite extraordinary abilities, taking on the supernatural powers of any supernatural she touches and leaving them mortal. It's been quite the learning experience for Alexia, Conall, and Lord Alkedama.

Soon Alexia is summoned to Alexandria to see the vampire queen and she cannot not show up. So she along with Conall, Prudence, and her dear friend Ivy along with her husband and acting troupe--yes, acting troupe--all travel to Egypt to meet the queen while Ivy and her husband with the other actors put on their play for all to see.

It's in Egypt where they learn more of the God-Breaker-Plague and that it's expanding--just as the cover description says. Trouble finds them naturally, and trouble continues to occur at home and travels to Egypt via letters as well, making a whole mess of things.

I truly loved this series! I think it was the first steampunk I read and adored! Alexia is witty as ever saying whatever she wishes to say. The love between her and Conall is endearing, but yet there's still arguments between the two and there were some close calls between them! It was a little terrifying to read, yet I reminded myself that it was the final book and Gail wouldn't "go there" all of a sudden!

Prudence is yet another delight! Being two she doesn't know many words, but when she does speak it always gets a laugh out of me! Ivy is the same as ever and still has her many hats, which she had to bring with her on the trip. She too, is a mother, and she is a very caring one at that!

There was quite a bit of action in this one and it made the book all the more exciting to read! There was lots of running and whatnot, puzzle to solve, people to save, people to kill! I really looked forward to the other spinoff series of this series as well! Having read an ARC of her YA one, I look forward to what is being tentatively called the Prudence books!

The ending was pretty shocking as well but in a good way! I liked how Gail ended this one!

If you're looking to get into steampunk, yet still want some paranormal in your reading, then truly THIS is the series for you! To note this is definitely one series to read in order, it's chronological like that!

Overall rating 5/5 stars

  1. it sounds so good, I confess I'm a little sad to finish the series as well so I take my time to read the 2 last books. But now I'm really curious!
